Fitness Classes

The Verona Senior Center offers regular exercise classes at modest cost.

Call the Center (845-7471) for more information and to register.  If you are not sure if a class is appropriate for you, come and try it out.

Starting March 1, 2017, several changes to the exercise classes will take effect. There will be much more flexibility for students. You will be able to come and go as you need to, try different classes to find your favorites, and pay only for those classes that you attend. This is how it will work:

  • Students will no longer have to sign up for an 8 week series.
  • Students will be able to start a class at any point in time.
  • Students can drop in to try out different classes.
  • Students will have two payment options:
    • Pay $5 per class at the time of the class, regardless of the class you attend.
    • Or set up an account and deposit a sum of money into it. When you use your swipe
      card to sign in, $5.00 will be deducted from your account. This will minimize
      the need to carry cash. (Minimum deposit is $25.00, maximum deposit is
  • Students will no longer have to pay for a class they miss.
  • Class fees, which are currently $35 for 8 weeks, or $4.38 per class, will go up to $5.00 per class.

Classes currently offered include the following:

Melt   Wednesdays at 11:00.
In this class you will learn the primary cause of pain and will be taught simple,In this class you will learn the primary cause of pain and will be taught simple, self-care
techniques you can do at home to remain active, healthy and pain-free for life. Using
specialized soft body rollers and small MELT Hand and Foot Treatment Balls to simulate the  results of manual therapy, you will learn how to reduce inflammation, ease chronic neck and  low- back strain, improve alignment, enhance athletic performance and keep your whole
body feeling great at any age. Don’t miss your chance to experience this breakthrough

Functional Fitness MELT   Wednesdays 10:00

If you can’t get up and down from the floor or have any unique conditions such as walking with a cane or walker or are in a wheel chair or have severe back pain, this class is for you. The class will mostly use the specialized MELT Hand and Foot Treatment Balls to stimulate your connective tissue and nervous system.

Line Dancing  Thursdays at 4:00
Join us for line dancing with instructor Marlene Cordes. All abilities are welcome. Wear comfortable clothing.

Chair Yoga  Thursdays 9:50
Thursdays at 9:50 am.  Anyone can do yoga and stretching in this class for those who don’t want to do traditional floor yoga.

Keeping Fit      Mondays and Thursdays at 8:45
Regardless of age, regular exercise improves strength, flexibility, stamina, bone mass and posture.  The ‘Keeping Fit’ exercise program is a mixture of aerobic exercises, weight training, mobility and balance improvement.

Tai Chi         Fridays at 10 for level II; Fridays at 11:15 and Tuesdays at 2:00 pm for level I    This slow, fluid, mindful standing movement class will take the body and joints through their range of motion while strengthening major leg muscles that allow mobility and stability.  Level I is for beginners; Level II for those furthering their skills.

Yoga   Fridays at 8:45.A great class to work on your balance and flexibility with some floor exercise incorporated.

Core Strengthening  Every Tuesday at 9:00  and Thursday at 2:00 (this class is free)
Having a strong core is extremely important as it supports the spine and aids in balance. We will not only work our abdominal muscles, but also the muscles of the back as well.   Please bring a yoga mat or towel.  Taught Alasa Wiest.
