Country Music

Paoli Street Pickers – New Name – Same Great Music  Every Monday afternoon, many of you come to hear the very entertaining Country Classic Music Group. This group began two years ago as a jam session, however, by the time the group reconvened after the winter break, it had evolved into a group of 11 musicians who regularlyparticipated and enjoyed performing with each other. Though the word “jam” was dropped, and the event had been retitled “Country Classic Music” in the Chronicle, some folks thought that it still was a “jam” session open to any and all comers. So, hoping to clear up any confusion, the group felt that a better plan would be to choose a name to identifythemselves. They asked for suggestions  and several entries were received.  From these, the name “Paoli Street Pickers” was selected.

For great entertainment, come to the weekly country music program, played by Leon McGregor and an amazing group of talented pickers and singers.   The musicians volunteer their time (some coming from great distances) to entertain us with classic country songs each Monday afternoon from 12:30-3:00.  There is no charge for the music and no reservations are necessary.   Cookies and coffee are available during the break at about 1:45.  While the musicians are taking their break everyone has a chance to get up and stretch their legs and visit with friends.  Within about 20 minutes the music starts up again.

Watch also for occasional evenings of country gospel music.

50/50 RAFFLE – A recent addition to the weekly Country music program is a “50/50 Raffle”.  Attendees can buy tickets for a dollar (6 tickets for $5) for a chance to win.  Half of the raffle ticket sale money is awarded to the lucky winner.  The other half supports VAAA projects.  The first project is to pay for the new sound system that is used by the musicians and at other Senior Center events.   The VAAA Board and the Senior Center staff are beginning to discuss possible future projects, once the sound system is paid for.
