Fitness Classes

The Verona Senior Center offers regular exercise classes at modest cost. The classes are $5.00 unless noted.

Call the Center (845-7471) for more information and to register.  If you are not sure if a class is appropriate for you, come and try it out.

July 2018 – As of July there will be no more Tai Chi 1 – on Tuesdays 2:00 PM.


Classes currently offered include the following:


New arthritis Class Starting –

Wednesdays August 22, 9:00 – 10:00 AM

If you have arthritis, just the thought of exercise may make you wince. But physical activity is considered the most effective non-drug treatment for reducing pain and improving movement in many types of arthritis. This program is led by a certified Arthritis Foundation exercise specialist Ron Dorr. It is designed with gentle movements that help increase joint flexibility, range of motion, and muscle strength, the three things you need to manage your condition. Participants of this class are given the tools to help them increase functional ability and be better able to do the things they want with less pain.



June – There will be no melt classes in June.

Leader Liron Weiss

Wednesdays at 11:00. (No class July 7/4)
In this class you will learn the primary cause of pain and will be taught simple,In this class you will learn the primary cause of pain and will be taught simple, self-care techniques you can do at home to remain active, healthy and pain-free for life. Using specialized soft body rollers and small MELT Hand and Foot Treatment Balls to simulate the  results of manual therapy, you will learn how to reduce inflammation, ease chronic neck and  low- back strain, improve alignment, enhance athletic performance and keep your whole body feeling great at any age. Don’t miss your chance to experience this breakthrough self-care system. Participants must be able to get up and down off the floor and roller!


Line Dancing

Join us for line dancing with instructor Marlene Cordes. All abilities are welcome. Wear comfortable clothing.


Keeping Fit

Leader: Shannon Maguire

Mondays and Thursdays at 8:45  (No class on 7/5)
Regardless of age, regular exercise improves strength, flexibility, stamina, bone mass and posture.  The ‘Keeping Fit’ exercise program is a mixture of aerobic exercises, weight training, mobility and balance improvement.
No class Monday May 28, 2018.


Tai Chi      

Leader: Jody Curley

  • Fridays at 10:00 for level II;
  • Fridays at 11:15 for level I

This slow, fluid, mindful standing movement class will take the body and joints through their range of motion while strengthening major leg muscles that allow mobility and stability.

  • Level I is for beginners;
  • Level II for those furthering their skills.

A great class to work on your balance and flexibility with some floor exercise incorporated.


Core Strength – FREE

Leader: Alasa Wiest

    • Every Tuesday at 9:00  (this class is free)
    • Thursday at 2:00 (this class is free)

Having a strong core is extremely important as it supports the spine and aids in balance. We will not only work our abdominal muscles, but also the muscles of the back as well.   Please bring a yoga mat or towel.  Taught Alasa Wiest.



Prior news:

Starting March 1, 2017, several changes to the exercise classes will take effect. There will be much more flexibility for students. You will be able to come and go as you need to, try different classes to find your favorites, and pay only for those classes that you attend. This is how it will work:

  • Students will no longer have to sign up for an 8 week series.
  • Students will be able to start a class at any point in time.
  • Students can drop in to try out different classes.
  • Students will have two payment options:
    • Pay $5 per class at the time of the class, regardless of the class you attend.
    • Or set up an account and deposit a sum of money into it. When you use your swipe
      card to sign in, $5.00 will be deducted from your account.  (Minimum deposit is $25.00)
  • Students will no longer have to pay for a class they miss.
